Sishiko in time of quarantine

Updated: Sep 30, 2020

My mother has always been into arts. I've seen her doing something or the other to keep herself busy. From stitching our clothes when we were kids to creating fancy hairbands to embroidering namaz ka dupatta, crochet and what not. She made sure we don't sit idle either. Every summer vacation she'd get us enrolled in some sort of classes be it painting, crafts anything. And then as we grew older she tried to teach me how to crochet or do a french knot in embroidery or knitting a scarf. It used to be a task and a half back then. I'd always start a project and leave it half way, I wouldn't know how to untangle a thread if it knotted during embroidery.

But, I see myself wanting to create things on my own now, like I saw my mother doing. Making cushions for a bedsheet set or embroidering a pillow cover. That above is a Sishiko pattern I bought last summer during my trip to Canada, and this is my quarantine time project.

In these difficult times, it is quite easy to get into a habit of not doing anything. Though these times are out of the ordinary and taxing in many ways. We can use the days we have and turn them into something productive, to find ourselves, to create or delve into old/new hobbies/passions. The possibilities are endless.

Lets see how this turns out. Update on this in a couple of days!
